Telecommunication

The activities we carry out on this area are based on the implementation of radio communication systems in order to provide a continuous communication between the volunteers or members even in case of emergency. In fact, in such situations, the normal communication channels do not always work properly. Our centre contains all the tools offered to volunteers (see the images below).

These are some of the tools offered to our volunteers:

- kenwood tmd-700e: multiband radio receiver with APRS module
- kenwood th-d7e: multiband cordless radio receiver with APRS module
- kenwood ts-140s: kit for HF transmissions
- kenwood tm-v7e: multiband radio receiver
- lpd alinco: multiband cordless radio kits for short distance on LPD band
- alan 48: kit for transmissions on CB band
- kenwood vc-h1: for transmission of images in SSTV
- decoder ATV: to receive audio and visual signals in the ATV way
- transmitter ATV: to transmit audio and visual signals in the ATV way
- personal computer for the elaboration of the data of the APRS and of the SSTV

It is important to underline that the growing interaction between analogic and digital technology has led to the development of technologies which represent very important tools for the activities of civil protection (just think of the possibility to manage mobile tools or the exchange of simple documents by radio). The radio communication field benefits from a large experimentation by private sectors which will lead to the creation of new interesting tools (just think of the TETRA sector and other technologies working to improve radio communication techniques). Finally, it is important to lay out that the searching of new technologies, as well as the experimentation of already existing technologies, is carried out by our group in collaboration with other civil protection volunteers and with other radio channels within the region.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION:

Amateur radio operator : person or structure having the possibility to intercept radio transmissions on the frequencies reserved to amateur radio operators

APRS: acronym for Automatic Positioning Reporting System. It allows the visualization on a map of the movement of certain tools or the information of fixed stations

HF: acronym for High Frequency. They represent a particular range of frequencies which allow long distance communications

LPD: acronym for Low Power Device. These tools have a low power, can be freely used and are very useful for short distance communications

CB: acronym for Citizen Band. These frequencies are used by small transceivers

SSTV: acronym for Slow Scan TeleVision. It allows the transmission of images at low scanning rates through radio frequencies

ATV: acronym for Amateur TeleVision. It allows the transmission and reception of audio video signals either live either through relay bridges
